What is a landing page and how does it work.

A landing page has several nomenclatures such as “lead capture page”, “static page”, “destination page” etc. Let's give you a brief definition of a landing page. A landing page refers to a single page that appears as soon as you click on a search engine optimized search result. In other words, landing pages are designed to generate leads. An advertiser’s conversion rate is dependant on the action a visitor takes upon visiting your landing page.

How does a landing page work?



To maximize the use of your landing page, you need to make a mouth-watering offer. The offer should be able to convince the visitor to take action that will improve your conversion rate. This offer should have a link of your landing page. That way, as soon as the visitor clicks the link, it will take the visitor to your landing page. These days, most advertisers prefer to share a post on social media with a link that takes the reader to their page.

Elements of a landing page


To achieve a conversion rate, a landing page must have the following elements;
1.    The landing page has to be completely focused on the offer made.
2.    The headline or title should be intriguing and explain how the offer works.
3.    You need a compelling image that shows how the offer works.
4.    The landing page should also contain a form or space where a visitor can insert an email address.
5.    The landing page must have a call to action.
6.    The page must contain compelling proof. This way a visitor will be interested in giving your product or services a try.

Is a landing page same as a homepage?


Most beginners often have this misconception that a landing page is the same as a home page. The difference between a landing page and a homepage is far-reaching. One of the major differences is that a homepage is not focused on getting conversions per se while the main aim of creating is to convert visitors into clients. The homepage of a website basically contains a general overview of your product and services while on the other hand, a landing page contains compelling offers for the purpose of making sales. The homepage speaks about your overall brand, but the landing page is dedicated to prospective customers.

A landing page is a veritable tool that most marketing companies are making use of to attract visitors to their page. However, a landing page should not contain any link that will not represent your conversion goal. Such link will end up becoming a distraction. It is advised that your landing page should not contain adverts that make bogus promises. Keep it simple and straight to the point.
